Responsibilities
Kai Vessey works with the Engineering Team as an Associate Decarbonization Consultant at Sustainable Investment Group (SIG). His responsibility at SIG is to coordinate efforts to reduce carbon emissions of new construction and existing buildings through life-cycle analysis, decarbonization assessments, energy modeling, and energy audits. Kai’s role is vital to supporting the smooth operations of the Decarbonization Team and providing opportunities for growth as the team expands its efforts to provide quality decarbonization assessments for clients worldwide.

Education
Kai graduated from the University of Iowa in 2022 with a degree in Mechanical Engineering focusing on Energy and the Environment. His education focus included advanced thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and sustainable systems. He also pursued multiple areas of research, such as the resilience of bridge structures and protection against erosion. He holds his LEEP AP BD+C accreditation and is pursuing an EIT designation.

Experience
Kai practiced as a green building consultant, helping teams across the Midwest achieve LEED certification. He worked on a diverse collection of projects ranging from university buildings to apartment and commercial complexes and a LEED cohousing community. He is excited to transition back into engineering and tackle these issues from the technical services side.

Interests
In his free time, Kai prioritizes staying active and being outside. He plays in a Sunday soccer league, goes on frequent camping and climbing trips, and takes his motorcycle out for road trips as much as possible. Kai’s favorite activity is participating in a weekly Friday night potluck, a long-held tradition that provides crucial and consistent R&R time with his friends. This time also provides an opportunity to cook new recipes and try new foods, both of which he enjoys greatly.
