Responsibilities
John Peterson is a member of the Engineering Team at Sustainable Investment Group (SIG) as a full-time Energy Consultant. His main responsibilities include Commissioning, Retro-commissioning, Energy Audits, and Indoor Environmental Quality testing, while providing support for LEED projects. As demand rises, he hopes to support on Waste Audits nation-wide.
Education
John studied at the University of Buffalo, and the SUNY School of Environmental Science and Forestry (ESF). In 2019, he received his Bachelors in Sustainable Energy Management, with a minor in Sustainable Construction. This program focused on Building Science, managing energy demand, and renewable energy technologies. His continued education plans include multiple LEED certifications and the AEE’s Certified Energy Manager (C.E.M.) certificate.
Experience
In the summer of 2018, John became the first remote intern at SIG, operating out of New York City in coordination with other engineering team members. There he received experience in Retro-commissioning, and Indoor Air Quality testing. Since achieving his Bachelor’s in 2019, John started a full time Jr. Energy Engineer position performing commercial energy audits, with a focus on ASHRAE Level 2 Energy Audits, to assist properties in compliance with New York City’s Local Law 87. In late 2020, John’s career focus shifted to a remote position with Verdani Partners, operating as an ESG consultant, supporting a global portfolio with GRESB reporting.
Interests
In his free time, John enjoys playing music, tending his garden, spending time with his dog, boxing, and reading non fiction, with a focus on astronomy or history. When taking time off, John enjoys traveling to national and state parks.
