James Stearman is a member of the Engineering Team at Sustainable Investment Group (SIG) as a full-time ENERGY STAR Data Analyst. His main responsibilities include updating building profiles through ENERGY STAR Portfolio Manager, creating and submitting applications to the EPA, and ensuring compliance with city ordinances.
James studied at James Madison University in the Shenandoah Valley. In 2019, he received his Bachelors in Communications, with a minor in Environmental Studies and Business Administration. He interned at a community garden as a Sustainability researcher his senior year, where he discovered his passion for environmental sustainability. This internship focused on waste management and food sovereignty. He currently has his LEED Green Associate and Sustainable Facility Professional (SFP) credentials, and his continued education plans include LEED AP BD+C, TRUE Advisor, and WELL AP.
In the summer of 2019, after receiving his Bachelors degree, James served as an AmeriCorps VISTA at Kaua’i Community College on the island of Kaua’i in Hawaii. He received experience in campus sustainability, sustainability coordination and planning, and waste management. Part of the position was filling out a STARS report, Sustainability Tracking, and Assessment Rating System. STARS is utilized as a benchmarking tool with higher education institutions, and part of this included tracking energy consumption and renewable portfolios. That experience helped him get his next job as an Energy Systems Specialist working for his public-school division, where he attended for his K-12 education. James focused on energy conservation, energy education, and CO2 testing in 20 of the counties’ 200+ buildings.
In his free time, James enjoys hiking, playing/watching almost any sport, running, taking his dog on adventures, listening to music, reading, and feeding his curiosity bug. James also loves bees and will take any beekeeping opportunities he can when available! When taking time off, James enjoys visiting family overseas and traveling around the country.
