As an Engineering Analyst at Sustainable Investment Group (SIG), Ian Shen-Costello supports the engineering team with the evaluation and improvement of mechanical systems for buildings seeking LEED certification.
Based in Brooklyn, Ian conducts onsite walkthroughs and environmental quality tests for SIG’s New York City projects. Additional responsibilities include assisting with commissioning projects, verifying ENERGY STAR data, and ESG reporting for SIG’s major clients.
Ian is a Junior at Cornell University and is expected to graduate in May 2023 with a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Engineering.
Last winter Ian interned with the EPA where he supported the Region 2 Water Division. He played a role in the revitalization of the Underground Injection Control (UIC) Program by tracking well permit requests and analyzing well inventory reports. He is a member of Cornell University Sustainable Design’s Aquaculture Team where he supports the mechanical subteam in developing a machine-learning based health alert system for commercial aquaculture farms.
He is also a member of Cornell Sustainable Consultants where he works closely with LEED Certification founder, Rob Watson to develop a similar performance standard for the waste management industry called SWEEP.
In this free time, Ian likes to be outdoors and stay active. He enjoys playing soccer, volleyball, and cycling. He has also been playing piano for many years and recently started to teach himself guitar.
