Sustainable Investment Group (SIG) has been working on Fitwel projects since the creation of the certification program in 2016. Since then, SIG has completed 18 Fitwel projects, helping these buildings achieve a Fitwel star rating, with many more projects underway.
The case studies linked here highlight the benefits awarded to building occupants and managers when they pursue a Fitwel certification. As shown through these examples, Fitwel certified buildings foster the health and safety of their occupants through strategies such as designing safe and pleasant stairwells, ensuring access to a variety of local outdoor amenities within walking distance, creating detailed emergency plans, and providing a variety of common spaces available to all building occupants. These and other evidence-based strategies encourage increased social interaction, prioritize the importance of both physical and mental health, ensure a connection to nature, as well as help to create a safe, vibrant, and healthy community. Fitwel is innovative in that it does not have any prerequisite requirements for certification. This means that project teams can select strategies that they feel are the most important for their occupants and their building type and location. Therefore, no Fitwel project is the same. Each unique combination of selected strategies creates a different building environment. Though different and unique, each Fitwel certified building has one thing in common: it creates a lasting, positive impact on the health of its occupants.
Partnering with Sustainable Investment Group makes earning a Fitwel certification easier, as we have a team of experienced and knowledgeable Fitwel Ambassadors. We work with project teams to ensure that proper documentation is received and that policy statements are thorough and clear. We also work to find opportunities to earn additional points toward certification. By helping property managers make changes to gain points, we creating a more equitable, safe, and healthy space for all building occupants. SIG handles the compiling of all necessary documentation, as well as uploading it to Fitwel for review. Therefore, SIG ensures that property management groups can focus on their building occupants and on implementing healthy changes within their buildings.
