A Glance at Greenbuild 2019 in Atlanta

photo of skyline of Midtown Atlanta, Georgia, USASustainable Investment Group (SIG) is proud to announce our participation in the Greenbuild International Conference and Expo for 2019. This year’s conference is especially exciting for SIG because it is being held in our home city of Atlanta, Georgia. The Greenbuild topic for 2019 is “A New Living Standard.”

Greenbuild strives to bring together a community of professionals interested in using technology and innovation to build a greener future and change the way we all perceive, build and experience our world’s buildings. Many builders, designers, teachers, students, advocates and decision makers from around the globe attend this conference each year. The team at SIG sees our participation in this conference as one more way we can help to build a more sustainable future for commercial real estate. Greenbuild offers an extraordinary opportunity to foster learning, exploration and meaningful change. Full time students (over age 18) can attend Greenbuild for free as a volunteer in exchange for volunteering a minimum of eight hours. Greenbuild also offers two types of scholarships.

The Greenbuild International Conference and Expo brings in impressive keynote speakers to discuss important topics that face both property developers and the population at large. The list of past speakers includes Amal Clooney, General Colin Powell, Archbishop Desmond Tutu, former President Bill Clinton and Neil deGrasse Tyson. There will be three keynote speakers this year – one each day on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. On Wednesday, November 20th – Greenbuild welcomes former President Barack Obama who will present the first keynote titled: A Conversation with President Barack Obama. Activist Jamie Margolin will also be giving a keynote address. The 17-year-old advocate and activist helped to organize the first Youth Climate March in Washington and has taken legal steps to try to protect what she refers to as her generation’s constitutional right to exist in a livable environment. The third keynote speaker is yet to be announced.

Some of the highlights that are planned for Greenbuild 2019 include a celebration at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in downtown Atlanta, a Women in Green Power Luncheon, and a Leadership Awards Ceremony recognizing individuals and organizations that are advancing green building design, construction and operations. There will also be several workshops and summits going on throughout the event. This year’s summits will focus on the topics of resilience and global health and wellness. Tours of the Atlanta area are also part of the conference.

The SIG team is looking forward to welcoming Greenbuild and all attendees to Atlanta this fall. The event will run from Nov. 19 through Nov. 22. Anyone interested in attending should register as soon as possible. There is no doubt that the topics that are shared and discussed during this year’s event will be used to help propel the sustainable-building movement forward in the years to come.

SIG team members have been attending Greenbuild for a number of years and have found this conference to be fruitful and worthwhile. Learn SIG’s top takeaways from Greenbuild 2018 here.
