Earth Week is always a busy time for Sustainable Investment Group (SIG), and 2013 was no exception. We got started a little early this year when the Atlanta SIG team took a trip to Piedmont Park to help mulch the large dog park on Thursday, April 18th. SIG has committed to doing four green-oriented philanthropy events each year, and this event was our first one for 2013.
On Friday, April 19th, SIG was invited to participate in the first ever Atlanta Business Collaborative. We had a table along with several other unique small sustainable businesses in Atlanta including Chuice, Eventologie, Glak Love, Serenbe, Green Chamber of the South, Julie Bee’s, Mark Good Designs, and Wearable Planter.
Also on Friday, a special shout out went to SIG’s Monica Gonzalez for passing the LEED AP O+M credential exam. Congratulations, Monica!
On Earth Day, Monday, April 22nd, SIG participated in two different Earth Fairs: the first one at Sanctuary Park in Alpharetta, and a second one at 171th Street in Atlanta. Both events were well attended and SIG was happy to be a part of them.
Also on Monday, SIG’s Matt Cichetti in New York taught a Lunch ‘n Learn to about 100 Standard Chartered employees at The Standard Chartered Bank located at 1095 Avenue of the Americas. Matt gave a presentation on what Standard Chartered is doing for sustainability as a company, how to continually green their already LEED CI Gold office space, and he even gave out take home tips for attendees to go green at home.
On Tuesday, April 23rd, the SIG team collected tenant surveys on transportation and occupant comfort at all four Mansell Overlook Buildings in Alpharetta, GA. The results of these surveys are gathered to go towards the LEED re-certification effort at the Jones Lang Lasalle’s Gold EBO&M buildings.
Two representatives from The Clean Air Campaign were also present in Building 200 and provided awareness and information on commute alternatives for Atlantans.
On Wednesday, April 24th, SIG participated in two different events. SIG’s Jeff Stewart and Asa Posner participated in Georgia Perimeter College’s Earth Day Expo. It was a busy event where they talked to over 100 students, including one student who had recently decided to major in Construction Management and plans to work on LEED buildings in the near future. Awesome!
Also on Wednesday, SIG performed a Waste Audit at Mansell Overlook to help improve recycling rates (and earn LEED points).
On Thursday, April 25th, SIG’s Monica Gonzalez and Charlie Cichetti taught a Lunch ‘n Learn to the tenants of Mansell Overlook to show them what they can do to help the re-certification efforts and what it means for their company to be in a green building. A special thanks to Jones Lang LaSalle, the Property Management Team at Mansell Overlook, for providing lunch to the attendees and for their support during each event throughout a fantastic Earth Week!
